Mallory Park’s new Rallycross track was used for the first time yesterday (October 1) when British championship front runner Liam Doran completed around 15 laps of the track during a press day for regional media.
Mallory Park will host the final round of the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship on October 18. A new Rallycross track has been created at the Leicestershire venue by installing two bespoke gravel sections within the ‘mile oval’ section of the race circuit. The first gravel section runs from, Gerards to the Edwina’s chicane, the second running alongside the starting grid. The Rallycross track has a lap of 1600m and has a gravel/asphalt split of 40/60%.
"The track is very fast but there are also some technical parts to it, the corners at the beginning of the first gravel section need thinking about and there’s a crest in last corner that makes it tricky to set the car up for the second gravel section. It’s a good circuit to drive and I think there are several overtaking opportunities too, so racing should be good," said Doran.
The final round of the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship, the Mallory Park event is being run in association with the Mirror and is the first rallycross event to take place at the track since 1979.
The event is being broadcast live on Motors TV which will provide a four-hour programme starting at 1200.
Monster Energy GB is joining the end-of-season showcase event at Mallory Park for its first involvement in Rallycross. Boasting Jenson Button and Valentino Rossi among its athletes, Monster Energy will offer race fans free samples of its energy drink during the event.
