Michael Coyne creates history whenever he wins a national title. He features in the rallycross history books this year after clinching his second national title, defeating a field of more powerful four-wheel drive machinery with his two-wheel drive 2.2-litre Nova — the first time in 12 years that a two-wheel drive car has won the premier title. He first came to prominence in 2001 as the youngest-ever national champion.

Ulsterman Lawrence Gibson (Banbridge) produced an unbeatable mix of speed and reliability to win the fourth round of the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship at Croft today (July 6). Gibson’s win with his MG Metro 6R4 was the first for a driver of a Group B car since June 2003 [when Pat Doran won at Anglesey's Trac Mon], and allowed Gibson to take a five point lead at the head of the championship with three events left to run.
Just three points separate reigning champion Ollie O’Donovan (London) from closest challenger Steve Hill (Aylesbury) as the seven-event Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship reaches its half-way point in round four at Croft in North Yorkshire on July 6.
